Why Water?

Remember this is what we are about:

Hello and welcome to the BOYCOTT WATER homepage.

Since 2007 a tight knit group of childhood friends have been throwing an annual New Year's event. It started with 12 close friends, a limo, and lots of champagne. Since the launch we have had masquerade themed madness and circumnavigated Minneapolis in a pink party bus.

Naturally planning begins the afternoon of New Year's day after the previous nights headache has subsided. Last year, myself and the planning team decided it might be time for us to start giving back.

But what was right? What was the most important? What is most immediate? Where can we have the most impact? Is world peace possible?

After spending three weeks in Africa last fall it became obvious to myself, and fellow planner, Emilie Hitch, that potable drinking water is in fact a huge privilege of the developed world. There were lines that would wrap around entire villages in Burkina Faso and Mali where mother's and their children would wait for hours in line at a single water pump. Upon returning to the US I learned that in Africa alone people spend 40 billion hours a year walking to locations where they can retrieve clean drinking water. 40 BILLION HOURS? WTF?

This is a situation.

So, this year for New Years we are giving back. Did you know that through www.charitywater.org $20.00 will provide 20 years worth of clean water for one person who doesn't have it...

Holy buckets! (pun intended)

So please join us December 31st 2010 for an open bar event with live music at The Nomad. As we boycott our own water, and imbibe in all that the Nomad has to offer, we will be giving 100% of the profits raised at the event directly to Charity Water. It only seemed appropriate for a holiday that revolves around consuming so much liquid to give back to liquid. Pretty fluid idea right?

Please continue to follow the blog for info, and we will be sure to send you all updates as things continue to unfold. If we don't have your email address or the addresses of your friends who you think may be interested in spending the holiday with us please send it to us here and we will be sure to add them.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Nicole Cosgrove
